I'd like to create a fic community for stories based on the Trek novels -- set in the shared reboot universe or in any of the individual books, trilogies, series, etc -- but I don't know how much interest there might be. Would folks here be interested in such a community? There's certainly a large number of interesting minor characters that turn up in the books.

*makes grabby hands*
FYI: the series was cancelled in the middle of a story [hence ending on a cliffhanger], but there's hope that if the trade sells well, IDW might commission a mini-series to wrap up the storylines.
Title: And My Eyes Will Shine With Tears Unshed, alternately, Bubbles is Rubbish With Titles, VTF, Fail
Fandom: Star Trek (reboot)
Characters: Joe, Giotto, McKenna
Word Count: ~8oo
Summary: It seems like just yesterday you were the awkward little cadet we were scraping off the sidewalk, and now look at you!
Author’s Note: first person McKenna pov, for the boot camp challenge for week 2. And it’s been sitting on my computer for days, because I’m a Lamey McLamerson and couldn’t be bothered to post it.
Crossposted to trekbootcamp and my journal.
( Of all the couples I’ve helped put together, yours is the most accidental, beautiful of them all.Collapse )

We've a fic challenge going on right now, so please come and check us out!

As always, if you can buy it from your local comic book store, that would be awesomecakes as independant booksellers are our friends. If not, ordering it directly from IDW may be your best bet.
Also, Star Trek: Crew wraps up with issue #5 this week, featuring Number One, Chris Pike, Robert April, Sarah April, and Spock. The trade won't be out til September, but you may be able to find all the individual issues at your local shop.

Right, so now that we've started to get a lot of members, let's try to kick off the ficwriting and artsdrawing with a challenge.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to write/draw what everyone else on the Enterprise was getting up to during the time the polywater intoxication swept through the crew. (Alas, this means that Riley will be conspicuously absent, which seems a bit unfair, given that it's partially his fault this place exists in the first place.)
The episodes involved here are the Original Series episode 'The Naked Time' and the Next Generation episode 'The Naked Now'. This means that you get two sets of background characters to deal with!
Bonus points for:
~Random pairings (Kyle/Giotto anyone? *wink wink*)
~Who did the graffiti, and what they were thinking of when they did
~Someone sleeping through the whole thing, then finding out from someone else later
Okay guys, have fun!
(On a side note, I'm both surprised and pleased to see so many people taking an interest in this comm. At present moment, it's 17, which is about fifteen more than I was expecting.
Also, I'll be playing around with the layout over the next week or so, so don't hesitate to drop me a line and tell me of any suggestions you have or problems you encounter.)

Title: You Are Young; Your Bitter Memories Have Time To Change Into Sweet Ones
Fandom: Star Trek (os)
Characters: Sulu, Riley
Summary: The story of two boys, a book, and a long stretch of abandoned railroad.
Author’s Note: The first line Riley sings is from the song Come By the Hills; the second is from Brothers in Arms. The town he mentions being from is the one mentioned in the first stanza of the first song. I should also note that this is before his voice changes, so it's perfctly reasobable to think that he had a nice singing voice at the time this takes place.
There is a little redheaded boy that sits on the abandoned railroad tracks near the deli where he stops for donuts on the way home. Every time Hikaru rides by, the boy is reading a book. Real, honest-to-goodness paper books, that haven’t been used since holobooks were created.
Should character of the week characters be included in the definition of minor characters? While it is true that they were not really developed beyond their specific episode, they were the focus of a storyline, rather than just plot progression.

Now, the rules are in the profile, and I will get on those more in depth soon, but at the moment, let's take the time to introduce ourselves.
Introduce yourself! Give us a chance to get to know you!
Also, we need a community icon. If anyone would like to submit something (preferably, should have the 'Needs Moar...' format, but I'm not picky), just drop it in the comments, and we'll decide on it as a community. (Democracy in action...!)
